News and Analysis of Cybersecurity Headlines

The cyber security research team has highlighted the following topics as the major trends and findings in the cyber security world.

In November 2016, one of the most prominent information security conferences took place in San Francisco. ISC2 announced the results of its research on the state of information security in 2017.

It seems that despite several people being aware of the need. Also, it is to take cybersecurity seriously, less than half are doing it.

Major Trends

What are those major trends? They’re listed below:

Phishing Attacks on the Rise

Phishing attacks are often used to target users for personal information or data theft. Also, Phishing attacks have been on the rise for several years, and the rate of growth is to continue.

The rate of growth is to increase, in part because phishing attacks have become more sophisticated. But it is because phishing has proven to be a highly effective tactic.

The tactic is not limited to private enterprises but also includes government entities. For example, in 2015 the IRS was the target of a phishing attack that resulted in hackers accessing tax return data from more than 700,000 taxpayers. However, there are some ways to protect yourself from a phishing attack.

Cyber Security Skills Shortage

Many organizations are finding it difficult to find and hire employees with the right skills for cyber security positions.

According to a study by ISC2, approximately 90% of organizations report that they have difficulty finding the right talent. Also, my expertise is to fill positions in information security.

What’s more, the demand for cyber professionals is to increase by as much as 29% over the next few years. Also, organizations need to take care of their current employees.

Oftentimes, employees leave the organization because they feel that they aren’t being paid enough. But the real reason is that the organization isn’t making them feel valued.

Organizations need to improve how they communicate with their employees to retain them for longer. It’s a better way to improve retention than increasing salaries, which can be difficult to do.

Cybersecurity Headlines: Risks

According to the ISC2 research, “The findings demonstrate that cyber security is more than a technical issue. It is a business issue with significant management, legal and regulatory implications.”

Cybersecurity attacks continue to grow in severity, frequency, and cost. Also, cybercrime is expanding its reach into the boardroom.

Ransomware has become one of the biggest threats to computing today. Also, it’s now the leading cause of data breaches in 2016.

Ransomware has been by criminals to extort money from victims by locking down their files with strong encryption. Also, the aforementioned Phishing attacks on the rise have increased dramatically in recent years.

Conclusion

In conclusion, organizations need to take cybersecurity more seriously. Also, information security professionals must take steps to improve their organization’s cybersecurity.
