How To Restore Your Cybersecurity

restore your cybersecurity

You know how it goes. You’re working on your computer, and suddenly, everything goes blank. You have to start over from scratch. It’s happened to all of us- but there is a way to restore your cybersecurity and avoid this disaster in the future.

Read on for our tips!

How To Restore Your Cybersecurity

To restore your cybersecurity, you’ll need the following:

A sharp knife A new hard drive The latest version of your operating system A copy of your files that have not been corrupted

Replace The Hard Drive

First, you’ll have to shut off your computer and remove the hard drive. Be sure it is unplugged from the wall. Then, take a sharp knife and cut through the casing of the hard drive where indicated.

You’ll have to take out the screws holding it in place and then remove them. You should do this carefully to avoid damaging any components. After removing the hard drive:

  1. Put it in a safe place. You may need to wipe off any excess hardware or dust on your old hard drive, but it’s not completely necessary.
  2. Put in a new hard drive and screw it into place.
  3. Make sure you connect all necessary cables before turning on your computer.

We recommend using a new hard drive for better performance because a virus or malware has probably corrupted your old one. However, if you know that your hard drive is okay, you can use your old one again.

Install The New Operating System

Now you should install a new operating system onto the new hard drive. If you’re using an old computer, this may be difficult- especially if the computer is older than five years or so. You can get a new operating system online here.

If this is too expensive, or if your computer is too old, you can replace your entire computer instead of simply replacing the old hard drive with a new one. This will be more expensive than replacing just the hard drive, but it will ensure better security on your part.

Install The New Hard Drive And Copy Files From Old Hard Drive To New One

After installing a new operating system onto your new hard drive, you’ll have to reconnect everything and start copying files from the old hard drive onto the new one- but make sure they’re in their proper places!

It may take some time to finish depending on how many files are being transferred and how large they are.

You’ll know that everything has been transferred properly when every single file has been copied over successfully- including all multimedia files (music and movie files). Don’t forget to transfer over any games that were installed! Make sure everything has been transferred over successfully before turning on your computer.

Restore Your Cybersecurity

Before turning on your computer, make sure that you have made a backup of all your files. If you don’t have a backup, you will lose everything on your computer before you start working on it.

This is one of the most important steps because it will ensure that nothing goes wrong in the future. After your files are backed up, and you’re certain that everything has been transferred over successfully, you can turn on your computer and restore your cybersecurity!
