How to Ensure Network Security

Do you know how to ensure network security? Do you know what are some of the steps you need to take? If not, this blog can guide you.

How to Ensure Network Security

Ensuring network security means that you can monitor and control the network activities in your network. This involves monitoring the flow of information in your network and blocking unauthorized or malicious access

Here are some of the steps you need to take to ensure network security:

Use a firewall

A firewall is a hardware or software component that separates your internal network from an external one, such as the Internet. It allows or blocks specific types of traffic based on a set of rules. Further, it is an essential component in any network security architecture. Because it controls how data is exchanged between networks.

Install the latest patches for all servers and devices in the network

Keeping all servers and devices up to date with the latest patches ensures you have the most up-to-date security features from vendors.

Ensure that all accounts are secured with strong passwords

Passwords should always be long, contain both numeric and alphanumeric characters, and must be changed regularly.

Monitor regularly for unusual activity in the network

Monitoring for unusual activity is important because it not only prevents the malicious activity from succeeding. But it also helps you detect attacks that have already taken place.

Encrypt all sensitive data

Encrypting sensitive data keeps them safe even if attackers get hold of it. Because they won’t be able to decrypt it without access to the decryption key. This data includes credit card numbers, customer information, and other personally identifiable information (PII).

Further, it also complies with regulations such as HIPAA. This states that PHI must be encrypted at rest or in transit if held by a covered entity or its business associate

Train staff on information security best practices

Staff members are often the weakest link in security. Because they’re usually unaware of what they can do to cause harm or they’re just lazy when it comes to following company policies on information security. Thus, training them on information security best practices can help prevent them from making mistakes. One that can compromise your network’s security.

Limit authorized users’ access

Limiting authorized users’ access only gives them access to what they need for their jobs. So, this reduces their privileges and reduces the risk of them accidentally exposing your organization’s sensitive information.

Use two-factor authentication whenever possible

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of protection when users log into their accounts. This is by requiring them to provide a second form of identification before they are granted access. As a result, this prevents anyone from accessing accounts that are not theirs. Thus, protecting a person’s data.

Ensure Network Security

In conclusion, if you want to ensure network security, you should make sure all users follow the rules. And that you regularly monitor your network for unusual activity. Further, you should also implement security measures such as using a firewall and encrypting sensitive data.
