They should have expert level knowledge when it comes to GDPR

If your DPO does not have thorough knowledge about GDPR then it would be near impossible for them. This is to ensure that your company or organization is compliant with all the rules and regulations of GDPR. So make sure that your DPO has sound knowledge about GDPR and can answer any question regarding the same with ease. 

They should have an expert level understanding of IT systems and technologies

Data Protection Officers are responsible for ensuring that your company has implemented strong measures for protecting your clients’ personal information from getting leaked or stolen. This means that they will have to look into various software programs and technology tools that are being used.
